Control outputs from tractor armrest and joystick buttons

AUX-N Functions (Armrest/Joystick Control)

The ISOBUS Block supports ISOBUS AUX-N (Auxiliary Input Type N) functions. This lets you bind a tractor armrest or joystick button to one of the module's VT buttons, so you switch the relay channels straight from the armrest — no extra wiring to the cab.

What is AUX-N?

AUX-N is an ISOBUS standard that lets the operator assign equipment functions to tractor control inputs (buttons, joysticks, switches). The assignments are stored in the tractor's Virtual Terminal, so they persist even when the implement is disconnected.

Available Functions

The ISOBUS Block exposes one AUX-N function per button. A button switches whichever relay channel(s) you assigned to it on the VT, so its AUX-N function does the same:

FunctionSwitches
Button 1Its assigned channel(s)
Button 2Its assigned channel(s)
Button 3Its assigned channel(s)
Button 4Its assigned channel(s)
Button 5Its assigned channel(s)
Button 6Its assigned channel(s)
Button 7Its assigned channel(s)
Button 8Its assigned channel(s)

In the tractor's AUX-N menu, each function shows the name and icon you set for that button on the VT — so you see DIVERTER with its icon, not a generic label. See Virtual Terminal Display for button setup.

Assigning Functions to Tractor Buttons

The exact procedure varies by tractor manufacturer, but generally:

John Deere

  1. Enter the AUX-N assignment menu on your GreenStar display
  2. Find "Block Relay" or "Relay Module" in the implement list
  3. Select a function (it shows the button's name and icon)
  4. Press the armrest button you want to assign
  5. Confirm the assignment

Fendt

  1. Go to Settings > ISOBUS > AUX-N Configuration
  2. Select the ISOBUS Block
  3. Choose the function to assign
  4. Press the desired control input
  5. Save

Other Manufacturers

Consult your tractor's operator manual for AUX-N function assignment procedures.

How Button Modes Affect AUX-N

The button's mode (Momentary/Toggle) applies when it's bound to an AUX-N control too:

  • Momentary mode (MOM): channel ON while the armrest button is held
  • Toggle mode (TOG): each press flips the channel ON/OFF

Set the mode on the VT before or after assigning the AUX-N function. See Button Modes.

Multiple Channels per Button

If a button switches several channels (e.g., CH1 + CH2), its AUX-N function switches all of them with one press. Set this up on the VT — see Assigning Channels to Buttons.

Tips

  • AUX-N assignments are stored in the tractor, not the module
  • If you move the ISOBUS Block to a different tractor, you'll need to reassign the buttons
  • AUX-N control needs no extra wires to the cab — the binding rides over ISOBUS

Troubleshooting

Functions don't appear in tractor menu

  • Verify ISOBUS connection (check the VT shows the ISOBUS Block)
  • Wait 30 seconds after power-on for function registration
  • Try power cycling the tractor's VT

Button press has no effect

  • Check the button switches a channel (open EDIT mode on the VT and confirm its channel selection)
  • Make sure Test mode in the web interface is off — it overrides normal operation
