Button Modes
Set momentary vs toggle behavior for each Virtual Terminal button
Button Modes: Momentary vs Toggle
Each button on the Virtual Terminal can run in one of two modes. The mode sets how the button switches its assigned relay channels (CH1–CH8).
Momentary Mode (MOM)
The channel is ON only while the button is pressed.
- Press button → relay switches ON
- Release button → relay switches OFF
- Best for: hydraulic solenoid valves, horns, or any function that should run only while you hold the button
Example: A joystick button assigned to a hydraulic solenoid valve. The solenoid valve opens only while you hold the button.
Toggle Mode (TOG)
Each press flips the channel state.
- Press button → relay switches ON (stays ON)
- Press button again → relay switches OFF (stays OFF)
- Best for: work lights, beacons, or auxiliary equipment that should stay on
Example: A work light button. Press once to turn the lights on, press again to turn them off.
How to Change Button Mode
Via Tractor Virtual Terminal
- Press the EDIT soft key (cog icon). The buttons turn blue (edit mode).
- Tap the button you want to configure.
- Choose MOM for Momentary or TOG for Toggle.
- Exit edit mode to save.
Testing Your Configuration
After setting a button's mode and channels, confirm it works:
- Press the button on the VT main screen and watch the relay respond — held ON in MOM, flipped in TOG.
- Or use the TEST function in the web interface to switch each output directly (see Web Interface Overview).
Tips
- In Toggle mode, the relay state is held only while powered. After a power cycle, all toggled channels reset to OFF.
- You can mix modes — some buttons momentary, others toggle.
- A button's mode also applies when it is bound to an AUX-N armrest or joystick button.
